Your Best Looking Decade

I’ve heard people saying that 50 is the new 30, and I couldn’t agree more! Life after 50 can be filled with good health, fun and fulfillment. In this day and age, aging gracefully can be achieved easily with the help of a few good tips. Being proactive in healthy aging is the key to enjoying life well beyond your 50s and 60s!

Water

Being hydrated is one of the best things you can do to age in a healthy way. Your entire body- organs, tissues and cells- run on water. Giving your body plenty of water allows it to transfer nutrients easier and more efficiently. You will feel more refreshed and full if you consume cups of water throughout the day.

Be cautious however, and drink even at times when you aren’t thirsty. As you age, you might not experience thirst like you used to. Drink a big glass of water right when you wake up, before every meal, and before bedtime. You can even have a glass sitting by your bed to drink if you get up throughout the night.

Skin Care

Taking care of your skin can erase years off of your appearance. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, protecting your skin from further damage is the biggest way to take care of your skin. Use a broad spectrum SPF of at least 30 every time you are out in the sun. Use a natural moisturizer everyday to lock in the water in your skin. You should also wash your skin twice a day with warm water and mild cleanser (not soap) to rid it of dirt. But don’t vigorously scrub too hard or you’ll scrub away your natural oils, which you don’t want to do! If you smoke, quitting will also do wonders on your skin’s health and appearance.

Diet

The food you consume is one of the biggest factors in determining your aging process. Eating an abundance of fruits, vegetables, legumes and beans will benefit your health in a multitude of ways. It can decrease your chances of heart disease and diabetes, help you maintain a healthy weight, help your skin complexion, and even fill you with energy. Eating large amounts of processed foods will only hurt your health and expedite the aging process.
